telc Deutsch B2 · exam strategy, not vocab drills

You're not failing at German.
You're failing because nobody has explained how the telc exam actually works.

Knaxx is exam preparation for telc Deutsch B2 — built on over 20 years of telc exam preparation and an AI that grades against the real rubric. No mock tests in the dark. You always know where you stand and what matters next.

Exam parts

All five parts of the telc B2 exam. Practiced like the real thing.

Each part has its own format, its own rubric, and its own traps. You drill them one at a time — with real task types, original timing, and AI feedback in your language.

01

Reading

5 sections 90 minutes

Which headline fits? Where does it say so in the text? What does a word mean in context — even if you've never seen it?

Gist, detail, headline-matching, classified ads. You learn which strategy works for which section — and which traps the test-makers have been recycling for years.

Practice
02

Language Elements

2 sections inside the reading block

Sie wenden sich an uns mit der Bitte …
Wir hoffen auf Ihr Verständnis …

Grammar in context: connectors, fixed verb-preposition pairs, modal particles, set phrases. Speed wins here — we train your gut feel with B2-level drills.

Practice
03

Listening

3 sections ~30 minutes

Gist, detail, selective listening. Real speakers with real accents — not textbook Hochdeutsch. You learn what to capture on the first pass and what comes on the second.

04

Writing

1 letter 30 minutes

Sehr geehrte Damen Frau Schmidt,
leider muss ich Ihnen mitteilen, dass …

Complaint, inquiry, formal email. This is where most points slip away — wrong salutation, missing context, wrong register. Our AI grades against the four real telc criteria and shows you, point by point, what cost what.

Practice
05

Speaking

3 parts 15 min · with a partner

You Was meinst du dazu …?
Partner Ich glaube, dass …

Presentation, discussion, planning — always with a stranger. Drill all three parts with our AI, which simulates four partner archetypes: dominant, passive, off-topic, cooperative. So nothing surprises you on exam day.

How it works

Three steps from uncertain to exam-ready.

No endless drilling in the dark. You start with an honest baseline, focus on the parts that still wobble, and walk into the real exam having done one full mock first.

01

Take a baseline

A short diagnostic across all five parts. You see where you stand today — and where the biggest point gains are. Costs you 60 minutes, costs no money.

02

Practice on purpose — not endlessly

You practice the parts you actually need, in real exam format. A short strategy briefing before each section. Feedback against the telc rubric after each task — in your native language if you want it.

03

Mock exam. Then the real one.

A complete exam under real conditions — timer, no going back, exact running order. You don't walk into the test room without having done the whole thing once.

Writing feedback

Your AI grades like a telc examiner. Not like a grammar plugin.

We grade against the four real criteria of the telc B2 writing task: task fulfillment, communicative design, formal accuracy, vocabulary. Every lost point comes with a reason — and a concrete drill so you don't lose it twice.

Your writing task — a complaint

Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren,

ich schreibe Ihnen wegen meines Kurses. Ich habe vor zwei Wochen einen Deutschkurs bei Ihnen genommen und bin sehr unzufrieden.

Der Kurs war nicht gut. Aus diesem Grund möchte ich mein Geld zurück.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen
Anna Kowalski

AI feedback against the telc rubric

Missing context — critical.

You give no date, no course type, no booking number. Without context, you get 0 points for task fulfillment — even if the language is correct.

Register too informal.

„Ich habe einen Kurs genommen" is everyday German. In a complaint, better: „Am 14. März habe ich den Intensivkurs B2 gebucht."

Missing closing expectation.

A complaint needs a concrete demand with a deadline: „Ich erwarte Ihre Rückmeldung bis zum …". Otherwise a required point is missing.

Formal phrase well chosen.

„Aus diesem Grund …" hits B2 register and fits a complaint. More of these.

Why Knaxx

Others sell practice. We sell exam knowledge.

01

Graded against the real rubric

Every correction follows the official telc rubric — not generic grammar logic. You understand why points are missing, not just that they are.

02

Strategy before every section

A short briefing before each part: what's the examiner watching for? Which trap keeps coming back year after year? What do you have to do in the first 30 seconds?

03

Built by a telc teacher

For over 20 years, Ela has prepared learners for the telc exams and marked their exam papers against the telc criteria. Every task, every trap, every strategy comes from that practice.

Common questions

What learners ask us most before their first exam.

Is Knaxx only for telc B2, or also Goethe / DTZ / TestDaF?
Currently telc Deutsch B2 only. We deliberately picked one exam, because each exam has its own rubric, its own task types, and its own traps. Generic “A1–C2 apps” end up training none of them properly. We'll look at Goethe and DTZ once telc B2 is rock-solid.
How are you different from ChatGPT or a language app like Duolingo?
A language app teaches you German. ChatGPT corrects your grammar. Both help you learn — but neither knows how a telc examiner actually grades. We grade against the four official telc writing criteria, we know the zero-point rules, and our strategy briefings come from twenty years inside the exam.
Do I need a certain level before I start?
You should have finished B1 at minimum — otherwise telc B2 is too early. Quick test: can you write a longer email in German without constantly looking things up? Then you're ready. If not, learn the basics first and come back.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Knaxx is built as a Progressive Web App — you install it straight from the browser, no App Store. Most learners practice on the phone in between, and write the longer pieces on a laptop or tablet. Both work.
Which languages can I get feedback in?
Default is German. On request we also explain corrections in English, Polish, Turkish, Arabic, Russian, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Spanish, and Portuguese. The exam practice itself stays in German — like the real thing.
How long until I'm exam-ready?
Depends on where you start. Learners solidly at B1+ who put in 3–4 hours a week are usually ready after 6–8 weeks. Coming from mid-B1, plan for 12 weeks. After your first mock exam we give you an honest read — without trying to upsell you.
